Reminder: Two months prior to the opening of her exhibition “Paradiesvogel” at the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum in Cologne, our AMA artist Ronit Porat took up residence at CAT Cologne. She has her own letterbox there and is looking forward to postcards from you all... What’s on your mind, what secret would you love to reveal to unburden your soul, or what rumour would you like to spark? Ronit is open to intimate stories, declarations of love and other curiosities. But look out: She might also use your messages for an art project....

Be Part of it: The Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum invites you to participate in the exhibition project of Antje Van Wichelen, NOISY IMAGES, as part of the Photoszene-Festival 2019.

We are looking for people from different diaspora's to create a group with whom the artist will work on photographs that are on display in the permanent exhibition of the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum – Cultures of the world (Cologne). Historical photographs in anthropological museums are often displayed to illustrate objects, but in order to analyse their impact on society today we need to know more: Who is the person in the photograph? What is the story behind it? How does it affect us today?

Together we are questioning these Images and their problematic context and display. The participants are encouraged to find information about the photograph they choose. The results will lay open near the photograph in the permanent exhibition, with an invitation to the public to contribute some writing. Antje Van Wichelen will then create new version of these images with what the participants added to it, at the Photoszene-Festival 4 May until 16 June 2019.

The workshop takes place at the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum – Cultures of the world, Cologne. It will be mostly English spoken, with notions of German.

You just have to save these dates: Every day from 3-5 May, we will be officially opening the exhibitions by our six Artist Meets Archive artists.

Artist Meets Archive will be presented on 3 May 2019 at 7 p.m. at the exhibition opening of “Fiona Tan. GAAF” at Museum Ludwig.

Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur

Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur is showing an exhibition by AMA artist Roselyne Titaud right from this week. Besides photographs by Karl Blossfeldt and Jim Dime, Titaud’s works, bearing motifs from interiors, found still-life formations, as well as contemplations of nature featuring forest and river landscapes, are exhibited in two rooms. From 3 May, this exhibition will be supplemented by new works by the French artist, in which she enters into a dialogue with the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur archive collections.
“Poesie der Pflanze. Photographien von Karl Blossfeldt und Jim Dime” and Titaud’s “Géographies des limites humaines” open this Thursday, 21 February. Roselyne Titaud’s encounter with the collection within the context of “Artist Meets Archive” will be officially inaugurated under the title, “Die Hummer-Quadrille” on Sunday, 4 May at 2 p.m.

In preparation for her exhibition at the Cologne City Museum, Ronit Porat is looking forward to some mail - from you! Write her a postcard from Cologne, sending it to her address at CAT Cologne and share your heartache, an intimate detail or a made-up story with her. But look out: There’s no letter confidentiality with postcards and your messages may reappear in the exhibition.

Sound artist SCANNER will be creating the right acoustic atmosphere to mark the exhibition opening of AmA artist Erik Kessels on 4 May 2019 at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne (MAKK). During his performance “Memory Sonatas”, the knights, church bells, Renaissance sculptures and iron chests from the template collection at the MAKK will ring out with a slow edit of a Beethoven sonata. SCANNER’s way of making Erik Kessels’s exhibition audible...
The exhibition “Archive Land” is a playful 3D installation that invites visitors to interact with the images from the MAKK archive. The exhibition soundtrack by SCANNER of the same name will be handed out on cassette.

In the context of the “Artist Meets Archive” project, Israeli artist Ronit Porat will be examining the collection at the Cologne City Museum.

We are delighted that, thanks to CAT Cologne, Ronit Porat has received the opportunity to arrive and live and work in Cologne in March – well before the grand opening of the Photoszene Festival in May 2019.
