Photographic Materials: Archives and Tools
A two-day symposium by the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (KHM), Internationale Photoszene Köln and the German Photographic Association (DGPh) on 3 and 4 May 2019.
The symposium deals with questions about the (im)materiality of photography and (new) possibilities and challenges of archiving. Discussed are on the first day (post) photographic methods such as virtual reality, 3D photography or augmented reality. The focus on the second day of the symposium is the future of photographic archives: what structural and institutional conditions must be taken into account when transferring photographic archives to a digital future? And what are the strategies of curators and artists? On two consecutive days photography experts discuss about these topics:

Subsequently, several exhibition openings will take place as part of the Photoszene Festival from 4 p.m. onwards.
The lectures on 03 May will be held in English. On 04 May the lectures will be held in German, with the exception of the lectures by Estelle Blaschke and Armin Linke and Madhusree Dutta (English).
Participation in the symposium is 20 Euro for both days. Participation is free of charge for students. Participation is only possible after prior registration and accreditation by 30 April. On both days there will be on-site catering for all participants.
