The ARTIST
Roselyne Titaud (*1977 in Aubenas, France) studied Fine Art at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in St Etienne, France. She has been living and working as a freelance photographer in Berlin since 2002. Roselyne Titaud’s photographs show delicate snapshots of private living spaces, atmospheric still lifes and landscapes devoid of people, which immerse the beholder in the poetic dimension of these worlds in a now objectively neutral, now individually sensual way. It is not Titaud’s concern, in the process, to voyeuristically spy on the private and intimate, but rather to find her own visual vocabulary, which – citing the light dramaturgy of Dutch genre painters – is characterized by a curious, sometimes ironic, but always neutral gaze cast by the photographer.
In the series that she has been working on since the 2000s she turns her gaze chiefly towards interiors, still lifes, objects and found arrangement that reflect nature and nature-inspired models in multiple ways. Everyday repertoire and individual archives, time reference and a great intuition for associated meanings are reflected in Roselyne Titaud’s work.
Processually, photography itself is inseparably linked with the notion of archiving. Simultaneously with the creation of an image of reality, the taking of photographs is also an opportunity to archive it, to record a trace of this reality.

The Collection
Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur, based since 1996 in Cologne’s Mediapark, is devoted to objective documentary photography in the artistic context. With the August Sander Archive and comprehensive bundles comprising works by Bernd and Hilla Becher, two internationally renowned positions are represented in the collection which have decisively shaped this movement both aesthetically and formally. Based on these inventories, Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur realizes alternating exhibition projects and publications of both historical and contemporary provenance. The collection is built up and scientifically curated in step with the devising of the exhibition programme. The collection represents names such as Boris Becker, Karl Blossfeldt, Joachim Brohm, William Christenberry, Paul Dobe, William Guerrieri, Ruth Hallensleben, Candida Höfer, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Andrea Robbins/Max Becher, Judith Joy Ross, Martin Rosswog, Wilhelm Schürmann, Petra Wittmar. The works of French artist Roselyne Titaud (*1977) demand a viewing. They come alive through shapes and colours, through the combination of objects and mementoes, through materials, arrangements and, not least, through a light that is repeatedly different and delicately asserts itself. On all kinds of levels, with her images Roselyne Titaud opens up spaces and surroundings and their characteristics and atmospheres, be they still lifes, homes, museums, models or natural landscapes. These are silent photographs, which awaken associations, throw up questions of staging and archiving and oscillate between natural and artificial space – a cosmos of their very own, which forms an outstanding complement to the stocks in our Photographic Collection.
