In Japanese architecture, timber was almost always used for building houses, palaces, temples and shrines up until the end of the 19th century. Comprising more than 90 photographs, the exhibition grants an insight into the history of Japanese timber architecture and exhibits examples, of which many are classified as “National Treasures” and “Important Cultural Properties”. The photographer Fujitsuka Mitsumasa was the recipient of a special prize of the “2017 Mainichi Design Award” for his oeuvre.
