Claxton, born in 1927, is well-known for his porträts of famous musicians. However, Claxton did not photograph the musicians during their shows, but used the breaks during which the musicians rehearsed or smoked. Very private insights arose as a result.
In his book JAZZ LIFE he documents his encounters since the 1950s, which include the likes of Charlie 'Bird' Parker and John Coltrane.
